Supreme Court stays Judge Tracie Hunter’s prison sentence
Hunter to remain free pending conviction appeal
The Ohio Supreme Court has granted Judge Tracie Hunter’s request to keep her out of jail while her conviction appeal is decided.
If the court did not grant a stay, Hunter would have been processed as an inmate at the Hamilton County Justice Center at 8:30 a.m. on Monday.
It has been two months since Hunter was found guilty of having an unlawful interest in a public contract, a nonviolent felony. She was denied probation and sentenced to six months in jail by retiring Judge Norbert Nadel.
The Ohio Supreme Court announced its decision late Friday.
The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department was prepared for a public demonstration and likely civil disobedience Monday.
